August 2023 update

AstroBin now supports video files

You may now upload the following file types: MOV, MPG, MP4, AVI, WMV, WEBM.

Encoding

To maximize device compatibility, files are re-encoded to H.264 with ACC audio. If you want to avoid any unexpected degradation of quality, it is recommend that you use those codecs already in the file you upload, so that no conversion takes place.

With regard to file size limits, the regular limits apply as with images:

  • Free and Lite: 25MB

  • Premium: 50MB

  • Ultimate: Unlimited in theory, but due to technical constraints, the maximum video file size is ~2GB

Feel free to replace your old GIFs

Image revisions support videos too, so if you have uploaded some GIFs in the past, and still have the original video file that you used to create the GIF, feel to upload it to AstroBin as a new revision!

Terms

  • You may post videos of celestial subjects, such as timelapses of cometary journeys, the Milky Way, planetary rotations, solar flares and sunspots, lunar phases, changes in nebular structures, novae and supernovae, variable stars, minor planets, and so on.

  • You may post images or videos of your own astrophotography equipment that might show it at rest or operating (e.g. a video of your DIY roll-off observatory opening, a timelapse of your telescope during an imaging session, etc).

  • You may not post product reviews, unboxings, tests, video tutorials, opinions, vlogs, experiences, travel documentaries, etc.

  • You may not post videos that feature audio or video clips whose rights you do not own.

Importing acquisition details from CSV

In the image data form, you can now import acquisition details by copy/pasting a comma-separated values list.

The documentation is available here: https://welcome.astrobin.com/importing-acquisitions-from-csv

Ability to filter search results by your images only

By setting Search domain = Your images in the search filters, you can restrict the search results to your images only.

New notification: IOTD/TP submission reminder

If you have manually or automatically submitted an image for IOTD/TP consideration during the past year, when you publish a new image and you don't submit it, you will be reminded about the approaching deadline (which is 30 days after publication. As with all notifications, this can be turned off in the settings.
